Mission

The Trust for Architectural Easements will be a leading force in the preservation of America’s architectural heritage.

The Trust will achieve this mission by developing and maintaining:

  • A national organization through a careful plan of growth
  • Adequate resources to fulfill our obligations
  • Strong donor relations
  • Deep roots in the preservation community

The Trust will consistently demonstrate qualities that will aid in fulfilling our mission.

Preservation Minded

We are committed to the preservation of America’s architectural heritage. We strive to ensure that individual properties and entire neighborhoods are preserved for future generations. We will use a variety of methods to accomplish our mission, including accepting donations of historic preservation easements, cultivating an appreciation for historic architecture through public education, supporting other preservation organizations and funding preservation initiatives.

Enduring

We understand that fulfilling our responsibilities means prudently planning for the future. By investing wisely and following sound financial practices, we will ensure that we can continue to serve the communities in which we work in perpetuity. We understand that we have an obligation to consistently monitor and enforce easement restrictions in a manner which will preserve the historic character of the properties we protect. We are aiding in architectural preservation today and for future generations.

Trustworthy

We always conduct ourselves with the highest level of integrity. We are sensitive to the fact that we are being entrusted with the stewardship of valuable and irreplaceable resources and that we must acknowledge that trust by always acting in an ethical manner that is beyond reproach.

Knowledgeable

We are committed to ensuring that our management and staff are highly knowledgeable individuals in their respective roles within the organization. We know that this is necessary to successfully implement the programs that will help us achieve our mission. We take advantage of memberships in professional associations, continuing education courses, and conferences to remain abreast of the latest developments in historic preservation practice, theory, and technology.

Inclusive

We are eager to work with others to achieve our mission. We believe that the cause of architectural preservation is best served by a community of individuals working for a common goal. We support the preservation of a wide variety of historic properties and communities. We are committed to giving back to the communities in which we work.
