The Riverside Drive – West 80th-81st Streets Historic District is located on the Upper West Side, near Riverside Park. The district is residential, filled primarily with row houses built in the 1890s, almost the end of the period of row house construction in Manhattan. All of the row houses, most built in variations of the Elizabethan, Renaissance, Romanesque and Gothic revivals, were constructed as single-family homes, though many have since been converted into apartments and condominiums. At the turn of the 20th century, the neighborhood received additional housing in the form of 6-story tenement, or apartment, buildings constructed for the middle class.
